I've owned and operated, A Stitch In Time Sewing School, for the past three years in Randallstown, Maryland.
When I was a teenager, A great aunt taught me hand embroidery. That started my interest in sewing. I wanted to learn how to make clothes. So, I decided to learn on my own. And, I've been sewing ever since. I've made dresses, skirts, pants, blouses, jackets over the years that received compliments from family and friends. It felt good to know people admired what I'd made. But, what kept me sewing, was the satisfaction I felt each time I completed something that didn't look "home-made."
After high school, I went to college and received an AA Liberal Arts Degree while Working as a secretary. My interest in sewing continued throughout my 30-years plus secretarial career. Clerical work left me wanting something more fullfilling. I began looking at various types of businesses. After considering several options, including looking into franchises, I found the Kids Can Sew and Fashion Design franchise website. I couldn't contain my enthusiasm. I knew that I had finally found the right business for me.
Working my sewing school has been so satisfying. Seeing how happy my students are each time they finish an item is the best.
I'm surprised at the number of adults who want to learn how to sew. Many are frustrated with the styles of clothing being sold today. More and more women want to make clothes that fit well and flatter their figures.
I'm looking forward to teaching this 2008/2009 Fall/Winter season. Each day is another opportunity to meet new people and share with them a skill they can enjoy as much as I do.
